Single Setup, Precision Forming: Application of Spinning Technology in Dust Collection Hoppers and Chemical Cones

In ventilation ducts, grain machinery, or chemical equipment, large-diameter carbon steel funnels are common and critical components.

Under traditional manufacturing methods, producing a large-diameter carbon steel funnel typically involves multiple processes: blanking, rolling into a cone, edge forming, welding, and circle straightening. This not only leads to long material handling and turnaround times but also makes the weld seams a weak point prone to stress concentration and subsequent corrosion.

With the spinning technology, operators simply fix the circular carbon steel blank onto the mandrel of the spinning machine. As the spindle rotates, the spinning roller progressively extrudes the blank according to a preset CNC program. Leveraging the good plastic flow characteristics of carbon steel under cold conditions, the equipment can complete flanging, necking, or conical forming in a single operation, directly producing an integral hopper structure with precise angles and a smooth surface.

Compared to stamping and welding or segmented assembly welding, spinning forming directly yields a seamless, integrally formed hopper with uniform wall thickness, higher strength, and a cleaner appearance. Dimensional accuracy is also significantly improved—CNC spinning ensures consistent roundness and angle accuracy of the conical surface, eliminating the common "ribbed" appearance often seen in rolled and welded plates, resulting in a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing finish.

Currently, this process has been maturely applied in dust collector hoppers, chemical storage tank cones, food-grade conical barrels, building material components, and other fields. The adoption of this technical approach not only reduces the manufacturing cost of heavy-duty hoppers but also provides more enterprises with a new concept: "lightweight production of heavy-duty workpieces."
